After the success of the 1st (international) edition of the Geotechnical Design challenge, our society launched a 2nd edition. This time the focus was simple: what is the ultimate load of a centrally loaded footing? A record number of answers was received from over 30 participants, mostly young engineers, students and some more senior ones :). Answers were compared to a test from the 70s. Three winning answers, which got closest to the in-situ experimental value were chosen and received free membership to our society for 3 years. As one of the participants expressed: “It was a pleasure to participate in your initiative which is really commendable.” An iPad was drawn from among all participants. That would cause great joy.
