On August 25, 2022 a STCym excursion took place in which some young members of Geotechnics Switzerland participated.
The focus was on the challenging geology of the tunnel. The tunnel “Les Evouettes” is excavated in loose rock and with little overburden next to the busy village of the same name. Jet-grouting umbrella were designed as auxiliary construction measures, but these were replaced by pipe umbrellas due to special local geological conditions. In the pre-tunnel zone there is an unstable slope, which is constantly monitored. The daily work of a young geotechnical engineer / geologist with interfaces to tunnel construction on this suitable example was very interesting.
